Important Update: Barataria Bay 2025 Cancellation

Dear Community Members,

We wanted to provide an update on recent challenges we’ve faced with county regulations and how they’ve impacted our events, including the cancellation of Barataria Bay. I’ll also share some positive steps we’re taking moving forward.

One month before Black Sails Adventures, the county contacted us and required us to apply for a temporary campground permit—something we’ve never needed in previous years. We protested, arguing that the law shouldn’t apply to us since we’re not a public organization and don’t operate as a public campground facility.

However, we were informed that the rule applies to anyone on any property—public or private—in the county: if there are two or more tents, a temporary campground permit is required.

We complied, applied for the permit in cooperation with the property owners, and successfully obtained it. Unfortunately, the process was not only costly but also diverted significant management resources away from preparing for Black Sails Adventures itself. On the Thursday before the event, the county inspected our site, and we passed—though this required additional expenses for infrastructure that we felt was unnecessary.

I want to extend a huge thank you to the property management team and the Black Sails Adventures staff for their incredible efforts in preparing for the inspection and making the event a success, even with reduced leadership support from Redprick management.

Regrettably, the county’s policy limits properties to just one temporary campground permit every 90 days, which is why we’ve had to cancel Barataria Bay.

That said, there’s a silver lining!

Site management and I have been collaborating on a permanent solution to prevent this issue from recurring. They’ve filed to designate their property as a private campground, which would allow events to be hosted whenever needed, bypassing the 90-day restriction.

We had hoped the county might grant Redprick an exemption for Barataria Bay, given the successful Black Sails Adventures event and the pending application to convert the property. The filing was submitted two weeks after Black Sails Adventures, but our request for an exemption was denied.

We didn’t accept this setback passively. We had already been exploring alternative sites and pursued leads as recently as last Friday. While those didn’t pan out in time, they could open doors to new locations in the future.

We’re optimistic that before the new year, the Poodle Creek site will be officially listed with the county as a private campground, enabling us to host all our events there without further permitting hurdles.

We sincerely apologize for not sharing this news with you sooner. Please understand that we’ve been working tirelessly—not just to deliver Black Sails Adventures, but also to salvage Barataria Bay this season. With only 30 days remaining until the scheduled date, we’ve run out of time to make it happen.

Once again, we’re truly sorry. We did everything in our power, but the government’s regulations simply don’t allow more than one event every 90 days on that site. If you’re frustrated and want to voice your concerns, consider contacting the county commissioners—though from our experience in advocating for these events, they view this law as being in the community’s best interest and have been unresponsive to our appeals.

Looking ahead, we’re taking proactive steps to safeguard our future events:

  1. Enhancing Privacy: Effective immediately, Redprick is transitioning to a 100% vetted membership organization. We’ll limit public posts to basic ads (many of which will be simplified), and all detailed information on our websites and events will be accessible only to members.
  2. Investing in Our Community: We’ll be seeking more input from you, our members, than ever before. Your ideas on what you’d like to see from Redprick will help shape our direction.
  3. Diversifying Sites: To avoid over-reliance on any single location, we’ll actively scout and secure new venues. This way, the 90-day restriction applies only to specific properties, not to our events or organization as a whole—ensuring we can continue hosting without interruptions.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We’re committed to making Redprick stronger and more resilient for all of us.

Best regards,
Redprick Management Team
