Lore

Pirates:

It’s a long held tradition that pirate flags, for the most part, are black with white or bleached markings. Jack Rackham’s jolly roger is a prime example: The point of the flag was to strike fear into other sailors.

Kinksters:

Many kinksters have kept a little secret. A way to tell other kinksters ‘hey we are here’ without flying the BDSM flag which wasn’t always around. We would fly the St. Andrews Cross of Scotland. Most in the kink community know the nickname or moniker for a whipping cross is St. Andrews or St. Andrews Cross, here is an example:  The flag of Scotland flown in the vertical orientation was key.

Black Sails Adventures:

The Black Sails Adventures flag is a medling of these two flags. Note both the blue and the black are much lighter than their host flags, this represents a mudding or combining of the two communities, never one dominating over the other. The cross was kept as a means to silently signal to all those who know, kink is near and you are welcome. The flag is oriented vertically to help demonstrate this is a cross of kink and not the saint of Scotland. The faded black on top and bottom symbolizes that we are pirates from stem to stern while the muted blue on port and starboard symbolizes we are kinky and kink like the ocean is all around.
