What's the NCA?
The NCA is an abbreviation for the Nautical Commerce Authority. So what is the Nautical Commerce Authority? Simply put they are the in-game bankers who oversee our currency system. Think of the NCA as part casino’s cashier who takes your money and gives you chips in return and part banker who stores your earnings and logs transactions. Earnings & chips, I’m lost I thought I was on a pirate adventure!
₡ubits
₡ubits are a pirates currency, coin of the realm. Traded far and wide for all manner of services.
What can you use your ₡ubits for?
-
- Official Uses: bribes, tips, land acquisition, get out of jail, toy reservation, warrant service, announcements, ads, class admissions, games, entertainment, demonstrations, shows etc…
-
- Attendee Uses: slave auctions, bribes, tips, purchase a camp spot, gambling, debits, food and drink etc…
Bribes:
In Nassau everyone expects to get paid for their time and services, after all we be pirates matey. In fact a popular saying in Nassau is “everyone gets paid, no pirate works for free!” It’s an expected courtesy to start off a conversations with Forsaken, shop keeps, or the like with a small token of your appreciation. Usually a singular cubit is sufficient, but it never hurts to financially lubricate the conversation before it starts with a handsome token, especially if ye anticipates a rather intricate or arduous request.
Tipping:
Tipping is also a commonly excepted practice here on Nassau especially if ye will have to conduct further business with them. What is tipping and how is it different than bribes? Bribes are financial lubrication before your request and tipping to showing appreciation for the work after the request and work is done. It’s not unheard of for the Forsaken to be unwilling to even talk to someone who didn’t tip the last time until they not only make their bribe this new request but also make the tip from the last visit. They are a scurvy bunch those Forsaken.
Remember:
If you see someone tapping on their belt favor that’s a clear sign that you need to pay your respects appropriately, sometimes that just might be more than you’ve already bribed or tipped.
Alas ye must think us all heartless scalawags by now. If ye be down on your luck but willing to work for your part I’m sure even the saltiest of sea dogs could be persuaded to help out a fellow mate of the sea.
What can't you use ₡ubits for?
- Tangible items. A good test if you’re unsure is to ask yourself can I take it with me home to mundania? If the answer is yes then cubits are not for this use.
Where can I get ₡ubits?
- Everyone receives a purse of ₡ubits the very first time they register at Black Sails Adventures to ensure they can afford to participate when they make landfall. You can see this in your NCA account.
- ₡ubits can be obtained in many ways, but volunteering before, or during, or after the event is what helps keep cost down. Make sure you volunteer at least 4 hours each season so you can have enough ₡ubits to afford to play and camping each season.
What’s with the ₡?
The ₡ is the symbol for ₡ubits. The dollar uses $ and our kinky pirate currency (the cubit) uses the ₡.
Example: 5₡ or 100₡
Volunteerism & ₡ubits:
Our event is operated by attendees like you. Some attendees want to donate large amounts of their time to make our event great. We generally refer to those folks as having a staff infection, seeing as they end up on the event staff. Most attendees simply want to give back and participate without the large commitments and for them we have a myriad of 2 to 4 hour volunteer opportunities that you can sign up for. As pirates are a free folk we recognize and want to remunerate our pirate volunteers in the one true currency any pirate would ever want, ₡ubits!
Accessing your account:
There are two ways to use ₡ubits. The more traditional method is to seek out the NCA once on site and ask a teller to make a withdraw. Your account will be reviewed and if your balance has sufficient funds you will receive the requested amount. There is a second method to using your ₡ubits. Again when you are on site you can connect to our wifi network labeled NCA (no password needed) and from there you will see our site and the NCA. Log into your account and enjoy spending your coin! The interface will become your virtual coin purse. You can transfer cubits between your account(s) and others account(s), check your balances of each of your accounts, tip anyone you want. Exchanging currency is easy with our digital currency system. If you have issues with your account the NCA will have posted hours on site where you can get assistance. As soon as you are completely registered you can use your ₡ubits.
